Congratulations, you’ve made it to fifth grade! Your teachers are eagerly awaiting your arrival, and we look forward to a positive and productive year. In order to get off to a good start, we’ve compiled a short list of helpful information. We’ll see you in Sep . . . .oops–August!
School Supplies We’d Like You to Have
• Schoolbag
• 1 1/2 inch 3-ring binder with pockets
• Loose leaf paper for 3-ring binder
• Dividers for 3-ring binder
• Extra erasers
• Pencils (No mechanical pencils, please)
• Book covers (6)
• Box of crayons
• Highlighters
• Glue stick
• Expo dry erase markers
• A pack of colored pencils and markers
• A box of tissues for the classroom
• Art smock or old shirt for art class
• A good work ethic and a positive attitude
• 1-2 books to read
* No toys, electronic devices or games
* No game or teen magazines
Some Things You’ll Study This Year
• Math: geometry; measurement; problem solving; fractions, decimals, and percents; and of course we’ll review good-old computation. Also, be sure to “bone up” on your math facts before the start of school.
• Reading/Language Arts: You’ll be reading, discussing, and responding in writing to a wide variety of stories and excerpts. You’ll be reading from trade books, leveled readers, and an anthology. You will be writing narrative accounts, responses to literature, reports, and persuasive essays.
• Science: changing forms of energy; energy resources; changes in matter; and force, motion, and energy variables
• Social Studies: the 13 colonies; the American Revolution, and the U.S. government
