This project will transition from a teacher-led classroom into a student-centered, choice-based art studio. With this transition, students will develop independent and collaborative thinking, creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, leadership skills, initiative, and grit. Students will explore various media, techniques, processes, concepts, and subject matter. They will design their own compositions and choose what they use to make it. Students will be integral in the feedback, critique, and evaluation processes for their own artwork and those of their peers. The classroom setup will consist of varied seating and other workspaces; sitting tables, standing-height tables, easels, countertops, and floor; allowing students to find a space that works best for them. When the classroom is paired with an interactive document camera, it also becomes an effective sharing and demonstration space.
