In my first year as principal of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, I am delighted to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year.
This will be a year of exciting opportunities for our students. We are pleased to be bringing the “Leader In Me” principles to Thomas Jefferson. Our students will be gaining a working knowledge of the seven habits of the Leader In Me program. These principles will guide our “Way To Bee” program and provide our students with opportunities for personal growth and exploration. Our students will learn concepts such as what it means to be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand and then to be understood, to synergize, and to sharpen the saw. We will continue to encourage our students to “Bee” their very best in all facets of school life. We expect the children who attend Thomas Jefferson to Be There Be Ready, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe. Our teachers have high, yet realistic expectations of their students because they are convinced that high expectations yield high results.
As we embrace the academic demands of the PA Core Standards, our staff is energized for the start of the school year. The BASD reading by grade 3 initiative will benefit all learners as we continue to keep instruction relaxed and fun yet bring a renewed focus on a data-driven guide to instruction. We ask that you, as parents, continue your consistent support and encouragement of our teaching practices at home. Be assured, as well, that we make a strong effort to provide an open, warm, friendly, inviting school for your children.
We are also excited to welcome a Vista Volunteer through United way in the upcoming school year. This position will be working alongside our faculty, parents, and District personnel to build community partnerships that assist the Thomas Jefferson Community. As this position evolves, we welcome your feedback and look forward to family involvement in bringing further support, opportunities, and resources to our school.
We believe in a strong connection between the home and the school. Therefore, we would like to encourage you to be an active part of the wonderful things that are happening at Thomas Jefferson. As parents, if you have not already done so, please see us about getting your clearances, so you are able to participate in the many wonderful things that are going on inside and outside of your child’s classroom. We look forward to your active participation as part of our Thomas Jefferson family. As the proud principal of Thomas Jefferson, I encourage you to reach out and contact us should you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you in the near future.
