The series, which is hosted by BASD Superintendent, Dr. Joseph J. Roy, focuses on the students and how they have taken advantage of opportunities that the community provides for them in school. Freedom High School senior, Christina Chen, plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the fall to major in Business Management/Global Business.
Christina attended Governor Wolf and Asa Packer elementary schools and East Hills Middle School.

Freedom High School students were honored at the 2019 Freedom High School National Merit Scholarship and Student Achievement Luncheon held at the school on April 26.
Joining the honored students were faculty; administration including BASD Superintendent Dr. Joseph J. Roy; school board members; and friends and family.
Freedom High School Principal, Michael LaPorta, lead the BASD community in congratulating the award recipients and wishing them luck on their future endeavors.

For the fourth year in a row, a Liberty and Freedom high school student were awarded a four-year full-ride scholarship to Moravian College as part of the Bethlehem Area School District Superintendent’s Scholarship.

Freedom High School senior Christina Chen has been named a Semifinalist for the 2019 class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program, moving to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship. A joint effort of Coca-Cola bottlers across the United States and The Coca-Cola Company, the Coca-Cola Scholars Program is one of the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship programs of its kind. About 1.5 million juniors took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) last October and entered the National Merit Program. Of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT 50,000 are recognized as high scorers. 34,000 of that number are recognized as Commended Students.
