Matthew Reightler interviewed with athletic director Nate Stannard for the boys soccer position at Freedom two years ago and, when offered, immediately accepted the job.
The new coach, though, didn’t know much about the program he was taking over or the players he would inherit.
“That’s a positive and a negative,” Reightler said. “Being familiar with a program and its players definitely eases the transition. But you come in with a completely blank slate and in this case, with the culture we were trying to build, that was very beneficial.”
