The 7 Habits<\/strong><\/p>\n

Habit 1:\u00a0 Be Proactive<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.<\/p>\n

Habit 2:\u00a0 Begin with the End in Mind
\n<\/strong><\/em>I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school\u2019s mission and vision, and look for ways to be a good citizen.<\/p>\n

Habit 3:\u00a0 Put First Things First
\n<\/strong><\/em>I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized.<\/p>\n

Habit 4:\u00a0 Think Win-Win
\n<\/strong><\/em>I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others\u2019 Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives.<\/p>\n

Habit 5:\u00a0 Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
\n<\/strong><\/em>I listen to other people\u2019s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting.\u00a0 I am confident in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking.<\/p>\n

Habit 6:\u00a0 Synergize
\n<\/strong><\/em>I value other people\u2019s strengths and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different than me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people\u2019s ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than any one of us alone. I am humble.<\/p>\n

Habit 7:\u00a0 Sharpen the Saw
\n<\/strong><\/em>I take care of my body by eating right, exercising, and getting sleep. I spend time with my family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. I take time to find meaningful ways to help others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Combs Elementary School in Raleigh North Carolina attended Dr. Stephen Covey\u2019s training on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. At the conclusion of the training, Ms. Summers approached Dr. Covey and asked him if these habits can be taught to young children. Dr. Covey responded, \u201cI don\u2019t see why not. Try it and let me know.\u201d\u00a0 The rest is history!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A. B. Combs Elementary School was a magnet school with an enrollment that was declining. They were told that they had approximately 2 weeks to find a new theme or they were going to lose their magnet status. Muriel Summers incorporated The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in her school, and this program has now become known as The Leader In Me program. In a matter of 1 \u2013 2 years, enrollment soared to having a waiting list, student performance increased, discipline referrals declined, and A. B. Combs Elementary School became the #1 magnet school in the nation.<\/p>\n

Schools across the nation have begun to incorporate The 7 Habits in their daily routines and are working toward the mission of developing leaders, one child at a time.<\/p>\n

With the generous support of Al Douglass from Merrill Lynch, Originate Ventures, located on the Southside in Bethlehem, and the United Way, Governor Wolf Elementary School is proud to be a Leader in Me School in the Bethlehem Area School District.<\/p>\n

Every child is a leader and can contribute greatness to our school, their home and our community\u2026and every child can incorporate the 7 Habits into his\/her life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
