{"id":237,"date":"2025-01-16T18:31:03","date_gmt":"2025-01-16T18:31:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basdwpweb.beth.k12.pa.us\/msprogram\/?page_id=237"},"modified":"2025-01-16T19:45:59","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T19:45:59","slug":"grading-and-assessment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/basdwpweb.beth.k12.pa.us\/msprogram\/grading-and-assessment\/","title":{"rendered":"Grading and Assessment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><\/div><p><b><i>BASD Assessment and Grading Policy\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bethlehem Area School District believes that it is important to report progress on the following items for each student:<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><\/i><b><i>Achievement grade<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> represents the summary of assignments and assessments that will form the final letter grade for the course. The purpose of this approach is to clearly represent the students\u2019 level of mastery of skills and content in the course. Summative assessments make up the achievement grade because they evaluate students\u2019 academic performance. The Achievement Grade will be the usual letter grade (A, B, C, F) for each course that represents the students level of mastery of skills and content in the course.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><\/i><b><i>Academic Support Factors<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> assess whether or not students are demonstrating the habits of classroom <\/span><\/i><b><i>engagement<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><\/i><b><i>responsibility<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which are primary behaviors that lead to students\u2019 success in school. A noncumulative rubric score for each Academic Support Factor will appear on the marking period report card, and they will not contribute to class rank or grade point average. Rubrics are below.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Academic progress and achievement are monitored and reported separately from Academic Support Factors, which are work habits, character traits, and behaviors such as attendance and class participation, which are also monitored and reported.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While Academic Support Factors are essential to the learning process, these habits do not provide evidence of what a student knows, understands, or can do with reference to the learning targets in a class. In our system, Academic Support Factors are reported separately from Achievement grades, and students receive feedback on these habits throughout the year.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Reporting of Grades<\/i><\/b><b><i><br \/>\n<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Achievement Grade will be the usual letter grade (A, B, C, F) for each course that represents the students level of mastery of skills and content in the course. In addition, students will receive a ranking of a 3, 2, or 1 for the Academic Support Factors, which assess whether or not students are demonstrating the habits of classroom engagement and responsibility which impacts students\u2019 success in school. Grades for the Academic Support Factors will not contribute to class rank or grade point average.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Bethlehem Area School District Purpose of Grading Statement<\/i><\/b><b><i><br \/>\n<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The purpose of grades is to communicate with students and parents\/guardians about students\u2019 achievement towards specific goals.
