Dear NMS Parents & Guardians,

This Friday, October 2, will be the mid-quarter for the 1st Quarter. When I checked Schoology this morning, I can see that many of you have not checked your child’s grades over the 1st Quarter. I am alerting you to check Schoology this week, especially for your child’s current grades. This is the place we provide up-to-date information on grades for you to check on your own schedule. Many students, hybrid & e-Classroom, have not been completing their required assignments when virtual @ home during the week. These mid-quarter grades will be sent home by mail and with your child, either on Thursday 10/8 or Friday 10/9. A paper copy will need to be signed & returned with your child to their homeroom teacher.

We are including three tips for you to help stay on top of your child’s current grades:

1) You can set Schoology to email you a snapshot of your child’s grades whenever you want. When you log into your account, in the upper right-hand section under your child’s name, you can find your settings. In settings, click on Notifications. Then, set Schoology to send you an email when you want it to see your child’s regular grades. I use this with my daughters and have it set for Sunday evenings, which is when we look at both of their grades & assignments before the week begins. See the attached image below for help!

2) In conjunction with the email, set a time to review your child’s missing assignments before Friday, October 2, which is the cut off for mid-quarter grades. We are distributing traditional paper planners to help our hybrid students with this process, which may help you get them organized. In addition, our teachers have been spending class time over the past two weeks to review their courses, where assignments need to be submitted, and how it all gets done.

3) If your child is missing an assignment or you have a question, empower your child to email their teacher (and copy you on the email!) As parents, its easy to send an email to a teacher. However, by making your child take the first step, you are empowering them to take control of a situation with your side-by-side support. Thank you!

4) If you need help navigating Schoology, check out the videos and links in our Sunday Email, due out shortly.
