Core & Encore Team Updates

Team Lafayette (6th) (Twitter @NMSLafayette Team Leader Mrs. Hackman) We are halfway through the 1st marking period. Grade reports will be coming home and will require a parent/guardian signature. This is a good time to sit down with your child to review what has been working and what needs to be altered in order to be successful. If you want a more detailed report, check Schoology for missing assignments and specific grades. On Monday, e-Classroom students should be checking in with their teachers using the zoom links in each Schoology course. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.

Team Lehigh (6th) (Twitter @NMSTeamLehigh/ Facebook @NitschmannTeamLehigh Team Leader Mrs. Oliver)

When is a day off not a day off?  We are officially half way through the 1st marking period of the year and Mid-quarter progress reports will be coming home this week.  It is important to note that this is a progress report, not a report card. For better or worse these grades can and likely will change by the end of the marking period.  Also realize that the report only gives you a letter grade.  For a more detailed picture of how your son/daughter is doing, log into schoology and check the actual grades for each subject area. Look for missing assignments that need to be completed and/or assignments that were not done well and examine what can be learned from them. We would encourage you to have a discussion with your child as you review their progress. The purpose of a Mid Quarter report is much more than just to report your child’s grades to you. It is a springboard into discussions about what is going well, what is not going so well and how we can all support them in becoming successful students.

Team Moravian (6th) – (Twitter @NMSTeam Moravian/Facebook@NMSTeamMoravian Team Leader Mrs. Roufakis)  We are at the halfway mark of the first Marking Period.  You will see IPR coming home next week for a signature.   You should be looking at your Grade Report in Schoology to see if you are missing any assignments. e-Classroom students we are meeting with you on Monday. You will be using the links attached to the calendar or the link found in your class under Class Headquarters.

Team Kutztown (7th)(Twitter @TeamKutztown Team Leader Mr. Falteich)  We have officially reached mid-quarter. Please make sure that you are keeping up with all assignments on Schoology – especially on the days that you are working from home. Social Studies: We will be studying the human features of a place, this includes culture, language and population.

Math: We will work on multiplying and dividing integers and rational numbers. Science (Mr. Pearson): This week students will be learning about how to measure length/distance with a meter stick and how to measure volume, specifically liquid volume using a graduated cylinder. English – Mr Falteich – Monday – Students should complete their third vocabulary lesson by defining the seven new words and writing a good sentence for each one. Tues-Fri. After reviewing the definitions of literary theme and inference on StudySync, students will be identifying the themes of several short stories by H.H. Munro. Conflict, setting, and irony will also be discussed this week.

Team Penn State (7th) (Twitter @NMSPennState/Facebook @NMSTeamPennState/ Instagram pennstatenms Team Leader Mrs. Getz)

English (Getz) – this week students will continue their “Sport Names” connotation activity. We will also read “Thank You Ma’am” by Langston Hughes and work on theme and comparing text to different types of media.

(Downey) We will be discussing theme, characterization and conflict utilizing the story, “Moonface.”

Math: Students in Periods 3,6 and 9 will take a quiz on adding and subtracting integers and then move on to adding and subtracting rational numbers..  Students in Periods 2 and 8 have a quiz on the first five sections of Unit 1 and then move on to multiplying and dividing integers.

Social Studies:  We will be studying the human features of a place, this includes culture, language and population.

Science: The first half of this week will be devoted to reviewing all material that we have covered in the past 3 weeks, including the metric system, how to measure things, metric conversions, the microscope, and how to use it/the parts. Thursday and Friday are test days. On 1 day (when students are home), they will take the short answer/essay portion of the exam. On another day (when students are in class), they will take the objective part (multiple choice, T/F, etc.) of the exam. E-Class will do objective one day and the essays/short answers the next.

E-Classroom Students: Make sure you are checking into your mandatory Monday Zoom meetings. Follow the schedule that Dr. Mayes provided. Zoom office hours with teachers are on Friday afternoon. Check Schoology courses for times. Make sure you are doing the attendance every school day between 8:00am – 3:00pm.

Hybrid Students – Check your “to do list” in Schoology courses for every @ home day and complete your daily attendance each @ home day. Make sure your laptops are charged each day when you come to school.

Do you love to sing? Come and join Glee Club, Nitschmann’s chorus! Watch our spring celebration video to take a peek into our beautiful choral family: Glee Celebration Video. Hybrid students are currently meeting in person during Lion’s Pride time. Come prepared to sing outside if the weather is nice. On October 5 we will also begin weekly Zoom rehearsals every Monday from 10:30-11:00. Interested students should register at this link: Glee Registration

Please see Mrs. de Vries with any questions. Let’s keep the family growing!

Lions/Lady Lions Athletics Updates (Twitter @NMS_Athletics)

Year-long

Cheerleading (Head Coach Mrs. Long kllong@basdschools.org)

Anyone interested in cheerleading for NMS should attend open gym practices on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during Lion’s Pride. Please bring back signed intramural forms.

We are still unsure of what the winter season will look like. If we can have basketball season with spectators, we will hold a tryout for NMS Cheerleading for basketball. The team is reserved only for 7th and 8th graders due to PIAA rules. If we have a cheer team for basketball, practices will be moved after school.  6th graders may attend open gym during Lion’s Pride in order to practice skills for the 2021-2022 tryout at the end of this school year. The time is also beneficial to 8th graders interested in trying out for LHS Cheerleading in the spring. In order to be a student athlete in any setting, “student” comes first! I will be checking grades on a weekly basis to ensure everyone is in good academic standing.
