Core & Encore Team Updates

Team Lafayette (6th) (Twitter @NMSLafayette Team Leader Mrs. Hackman)  It is hard to believe that the 1st marking period is only two weeks away. Please make sure your child is up to date with his/her work. If needed, extra help is available after school. We are still accepting donations for our Team Lafayette gift card and/or basket for the walk-a thon. Thank you to those who donated. It is greatly appreciated. Just a reminder to continue checking Schoology for assignments. Try to follow a consistent schedule on your at home days and make sure to get your sleep at night. Don’t forget to bring your computers to school fully charged. We have noticed several students needing to charge them when they get to school. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Team Lehigh (6th) (Twitter @NMSTeamLehigh/ Facebook @NitschmannTeamLehigh Team Leader Mrs. Oliver)

The end of the 1st marking period is 2 weeks away. Are you aware of your child’s current grades? If the quarter were to end today, would you be comfortable with your child’s 1st report card of middle school? If so, let them know. Tell them how proud of them you are. If not, now is the time to sit down with them and come up with a two week plan to bring up the grades of concern.  When doing this we tend to look back, blame and consequence. While that may be our gut reaction, we are encouraging you to look forward, organize and plan.  Be proactive.  Look for missing assignments and low grades that may be able to be fixed. Set aside a specific time each day for your child to work on them. We strongly encourage students to email us if they need help, attend zoom sessions and/or office hours, and to plan on staying after school on the days they are there until their grades are where they want them to be. Make this first report card something they can hang on the refrigerator and be proud of.  This is the first step to a positive middle school experience. You got this!!!

Team Moravian (6th) – (Twitter @NMSTeam Moravian/Facebook@NMSTeamMoravian Team Leader Mrs. Roufakis)

Interim Progress Reports should have been signed and returned to your child’s homeroom teacher. If you have not done this yet, please make sure to send it this week. After school help has begun. If your child would like to stay after school for a specific subject, please have him/her email or talk to the teacher to set this up.  We are still struggling with students not completing assignments at home.  All students received an updated grade report for language arts. Assignments that were missing were highlighted.  Please review these with your child.

Special Announcements:

  • The Virtual Bethlehem Halloween parade is today, at 2pm on BASDtv, RCN (Channel 4), Service Electric (Channel 2 or 502)

COLOR GUARD UPDATES:

  • Dress for the Weather. We are rehearsing outside, so make sure you have a sweatshirt or jacket. As the weather gets colder we will moving into the auxiliary gym for morning rehearsals.
  • We will meet in the cafeteria for attendance check-in.
  • We will allow a few minutes at the end of rehearsal to wipe down equipment.  Equipment will be stored in the faculty copy room.
  • Review basic skills, spins, and routines.
  • There will be Fall Pep Rallies during the school day on Thursday 11/12 and Friday 11/13, and the color guard is performing in them!  You will perform in ONE pep rally–the day when you attend school.  (So Thursday students will participate in the Thursday pep rally and Friday students will perform in the Friday pep rally.  E-Classroom students, please let me know if you intend to perform with us at this time.)

For the pep rally, the color guard will be involved in the following:

National Anthem (stand at attention for present arms/salute)

Nitschmann Alma Mater (short routine/poses/equipment placements for your section)

America (the routine we learned at Summer Band Camp)

Hey Song (easy routine with your section)

The music is posted on Cut Time so you can practice at home. (On the top, click on Files/Docs, click on Color Guard, and then click on your section.)

For the pep rally plan to wear a navy blue shirt.  That could be a blue band shirt, a Color Guard logo clothing shirt (orders are due today!), a band/color guard shirt from last year or the year before, a Nitschmann shirt, a plain navy blue shirt, or another navy blue shirt with minimal writing/picture/logo.  It will be November and we will be outside, so you might want to plan ahead for the weather with a sweatshirt or a long sleeved-shirt under a t-shirt.

Once we have more details about the pep rally we will send another update email, but make sure you are practicing your routines in the meantime.

Year-long

Cheerleading (Head Coach Mrs. Long kllong@basdschools.org)

Anyone interested in cheerleading for NMS should attend open gym practices on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during Lion’s Pride. Please bring back signed intramural forms. We are still unsure of what the winter season will look like. If we can have basketball season with spectators, we will hold a tryout for NMS Cheerleading for basketball. The team is reserved only for 7th and 8th graders due to PIAA rules. If we have a cheer team for basketball, practices will be moved after school.  6th graders may attend open gym during Lion’s Pride in order to practice skills for the 2021-2022 tryout at the end of this school year. The time is also beneficial to 8th graders interested in trying out for LHS Cheerleading in the spring. In order to be a student athlete in any setting, “student” comes first! I will be checking grades on a weekly basis to ensure everyone is in good academic standing.
