Nitschmann Middle School Weekly Update, Home of the Nitschmann Nation!

Sunday, May 9, 2021, to Sunday, May 16, 2021

  • This week is our celebration for Staff Appreciation Week! Take a moment and connect with the people who support your child at school!

  • Bring Chromebook Chargers Daily!  All students should be bringing their Chromebook chargers WITH THEM to school on their hybrid days. We expect students to charge their laptops at night, but we know sometimes this gets missed. We do not have extra chargers, so students are able to plug in if they need to. They need these daily!

  • July Summer Programs! Nitschmann will be hosting several summer programs in July and August to help our students after this long school year. In addition to our regular August “Ramp-Up Program”, we will be hosting several week-long day camps between July 12 and 30, connected to our favorite activities, to help students reconnect with school for the 2021-2022 school year. Sign-ups will begin in May.

  • Algebra Readiness Testing for 7th Grade Students 5/4 & 5/5  Over the next two weeks, Mr. Horlick & his team will begin to prepare scheduling information for next school year. One important part is assessing 7th graders for their algebra readiness to access the Algebra 1 course in 8th grade. This assessment will occur in school on Tuesday, May 4 for all A-L students and Wednesday, May 5 for all M-Z students. e-Classroom students should plan on attending from 8:15am-9:30am to take this assessment.

  • We celebrate Tuesday & Wednesday this week as National Bike to School Day! We invite all students to bike to school this week (where safe to travel to school!) and join us for breakfast at 7:45am in the cafeteria. Students should always bring a bike lock to secure their bike to the bike racks.

Core & Encore Team Updates

Team Lafayette (6th) (Twitter @NMSLafayette Team Leader Mrs. Hackman)   Our Greek unit has begun, and we are setting up group projects and activities to learn more about Ancient Greece. We are continuing our work on sustainability in Science.  As the weather continues to improve, students should be continuing to prioritize their assignments, then get to enjoying their outside time.  Many students are discussing their sports practices and games in class, and it is great to hear so many of them enjoying their time reconnecting to activities they love but lost last year.

Way to go – we are proud of you for leading the way for our team!
