PSSA FAQ for Students Taking the PSSA Exams

 

When is the PSSA Exam?

 

The exam are scheduled on the following days:

AM Session – ELA 1

After the ELA exam at approximately 11am, e-Classroom students are dismissed. All hybrid students begin the normal schedule with period 5. Hybrid students will eat at their normal time.

All hybrid students dismissed at the end of school day as normal.

6th & 7th Grade Normal Day

8th Grade Science PSSA Exam

6th & 7th Grade hybrid students have a normal day & schedule. All hybrid students are expected to be in school as normal. 

8th Grade:

All students report to homeroom.

Who takes the PSSA exam?

All students (hybrid or e-Classroom) take the PSSA exams in ELA and Math. 8th Graders are required to take the additional Science exam. 

 

What is the schedule for the day?

Students will report to homeroom at 8:05am as normal. Students will take the exam in your homeroom. Students will be in testing all day, except for the 1.25 hour lunch break in the middle of the day. Students will be in school for the full day. 

 

How will students take the PSSA exam?

All students (hybrid or e-Classroom) take the PSSA exams on their BASD Chromebook. 

 

What should I bring?

Students need to bring their book bag, charged Chromebook, the power cord, pencils/pens, a calculator, and a book/something quiet to do when done. Students may not use their computer for anything else during the test. 

 

What will I do with my cell phone or smart watch during testing?

Students will turn these off and store them in their book bag.  It is required that these items be stored away from your child when they take the test. 

 

What will be provided to me for testing?

Students will be provided with scrap paper as needed to solve the exam questions. Extra pencils/pens and will also be available if needed. 

 

Do I need to do anything prior to testing?

Yes. Students should charge their computer fully the night before. Students should also make sure they have completed all updates for your Chromebook before coming to school. Finally, students should be familiar with the online testing environment that was reviewed with their teacher. 

 

What will happen during lunch?

Students will be able to go outside and eat lunch. Students may bring their own lunch or get lunch from the cafeteria. Once students are done eating, students will have a 45 minute break period between tests, either on the turf field or auditorium. 

 

How will students be dismissed?

Students will be dismissed from the testing location at 3pm to walk, get a ride, or take a bus home. 

 

What if I am an e-Classroom student?

Students should report to homeroom as normal. If students are not sure where to go, your child should please report to Student Services and our team will help them to their testing location. e-Classroom students will go home only on the first day of testing (May 25 or 26) at approximately 11am. Students will stay in school for the full day on the other days.
