Here is our Northeast “Shout Out” for the week of May 3rd, also known as Teacher Appreciation Week. This is a particularly hard way of celebrating Teacher Appreciation, as it has been 8 weeks since our teachers have been in front of our children personally. We know how much it hurts not having that personal contact that keeps teachers motivated and committed and students going. We appreciate that our NEPTO folks are looking at ways to show their appreciation from a distance, as at this point that is all we can really plan on. One thing for sure is that we can rely on our community to get us through this terrible pandemic, and hopefully we will be stronger because of it.

On Wednesday, May 6th National Nurses Week begins, and it is also National School Nurse Day. The theme for this year is School Nurses Supporting Students in Times of Crisis. We are very fortunate to have dedicated school nurses who go above and beyond for our students, families and staff. We are thankful for all the nurses on the front lines during this pandemic. Please remember their requests, “ We stay at work for you. Please stay at home for us,” so that we can continue to flatten the curve. May we all take a moment to thank a nurse and show our appreciation for all they do.

This week was to be the start of our 5th grade elementary student visits in preparation for 6th grade, however because of the closure that is not happening as planned. Instead our wonderful 6th grade students and teams are looking to push out some type of virtual welcoming to our incoming students. In addition, we are revising our summer plans to hopefully include specific time devoted to our incoming 6th grade. As of now it is too early to know if we can manage what we are planning. These same types of “transition” plans are being developed by Liberty as well, in order to help smoothen the changes for our 8th graders going into 9th grade.

Finally please stay in touch with our school and in particular with our “@ Home with NEMS” site where we are constantly trying to communicate some of the positive outcomes we are having during this COVID-19 closure. Our student recognitions and rewards are really starting to pay off, and we thank all of our dedicated staff that have been working tirelessly to help motivate our students during these very unprecedented times. As we have noted every week, please be reminded that Northeast serves as a food distribution center for our children on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please now that multiple breakfast and lunch items are provided in order to provide for the entire week.

Have a great remainder to your Sunday.

Good afternoon Northeast Family and Friends.
