The Community <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">School Office is holding an Attendance<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Challenge! The classroom in each grade<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">that has the best attendance \u2013 think <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">PERFECT attendance \u2013 will win a donut<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">party! Attendance is taken EVERY DAY, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">including Mondays, so make sure you are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">attending online on your at-home learning <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">days! The Challenge kicks off Monday,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">February 1 and ends Friday, February 26.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The winning classrooms will have their <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">donut party the first week of March!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>COAT DRIVE<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Community School office is holding the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">first annual COAT DRIVE! Help make<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">someone&#8217;s winter warmer by donating your <\/span>gently <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">used coats and jackets. The last<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">day to bring in a coat for the coat drive <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">will be Friday, February 5. Donations can<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be dropped off in Student Services. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Questions? Just<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">grab one off of the clothes line!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>ACTIVITIES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><b>ARTSMART<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ArtSmart is BACK!<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students can sign up for Cartooning and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Animation on Tuesdays or Hand Lettering <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on Wednesdays. The teaching artists are <\/span>virtual, but all classes are held here at Northeast. See Mrs. Bush in Student Services for a permission slip or email her at kbush5@basdschools.org for the link to the registration form! Classes start in two weeks, so hurry up and register now!<\/li>\n<li><strong>BEATBOX: <\/strong>Who likes to beatbox? Who would like to work with World Beatboxing Champion Kaila Mullady? If you are interested, please come down &amp; see Mrs. Parker, during Hornet Block today to find out more information. We will be working with Kaila during Zoom meetings.<\/li>\n<li><b>D<\/b><b>ANCE TEAM &amp; STEP TEAM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:<\/span> Practice today! See you after school! ALSO, practice after school on Wednesday!<\/li>\n<li><b>HOMEWORK CLUB<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: <\/span>8th grade homework club will be meeting in room B305 from 3:05 to 4:05pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Catch up on \u00a0missing assignments and get help with your work. If you have any quests please see \u00a0Mrs. Papagni in room B305.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">7th grade homework club &#8211; Miss Rinaldi will<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be running Wednesday and Thursday this<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">week in her room A112 from 3:05-4:15. <\/span>6th grade homework club meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school from 3:05- 4:15pm with Miss Capuano in room A202.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MUSICAL REVUE:\u00a0<\/strong>Rehearsals for the week are Thursday for A-L and Friday for M-Z, 3:10-4:30. Northeast Middle School \u00a0chess club is a great way to make friends and support our community! Please see \u00a0Mr. Wynn in A107 for more information and a permission slip!<\/li>\n<li><strong>WORLD PERCUSSION:<\/strong> Practice Thursday after school!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ATHLETICS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>SPRING SPORTS: <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Attention all girls interested in Softball, and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ll girls and boys interested in Soccer<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">! <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There will be a mandatory,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">interest meeting after school on Thursday Feb. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">18th and Friday Feb. 19th. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Softball meeting will be in the A107 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Science Room on the 7th grade floor (Mr. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Korcienski&#8217;s room.) The Soccer meeting will be<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">across the hallway in Mr. Spieker&#8217;s A108 Room.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Both meetings will not last long, but please if <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">you are interested, please attend these two<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">meetings for Northeast Softball and Soccer <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in the Spring.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>SPRING SPORTS PHYSICALS: <\/strong>On <strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">February 22, 2021, St. Lukes will be holding <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">physicals at Liberty&#8217;s Auxiliary Gym from 5:00 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; 8:00 pm. Physical packets can be picked up <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">from the main office or student services. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>PLEASE NOTE:<\/em> There is an important change <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to the Sports Physical Process beginning with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Spring Sports Season of 2021: <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Any Student Athlete who has been confirmed <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">positive for COVID-19 must obtain their <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sports physical from their primary care <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">physician for a more complete examination as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it relates to the potential effects of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">COVID-19 virus. If a student does not have a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">primary care physician, parents are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">encouraged to contact the St. Luke&#8217;s Athletic <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Training Department for assistance in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">obtaining this physical. In addition, any <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">student who contracted COVID-19 after June <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1st of 2020 and already obtained a sports <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">physical must be re-evaluated by their <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">primary care doctor before resuming <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">competition or returning to play a spring <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sport. <\/span><\/em><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have any questions please see Mr. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Korcienski.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>THOUGHT OF THE DAY<\/b>: <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We&#8217;ve all heard about climbing the ladder to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">success. Luis Nogales is an exceptional <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">climber. He climbed his way up from the crop <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fields to the president&#8217;s office of the United <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Press international, a news service. His climb <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was made easier because of his love of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">learning &#8211; something he inherited from his <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">father, a migrant farm worker who traveled <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">from field to field with a small library of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">books. Luis Nogales has traveled the world <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and here&#8217;s what he said about his travels: <em>As <\/em><\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I travel and worked with people from <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">different countries, I am even more convinced <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">that this is the greatest society in the world <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">today for people to better themselves and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">achieve.<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We are fortunate to live in a country that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">offers so many opportunities to so many <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">people. Today, take a moment to be grateful<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for the opportunities you have as an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">American citizen to educate yourself and to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">achieve your goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>LUNCH<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do you bring your lunch from home? If you do, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">you can add a fruit, veggie and milk for free!!!<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That&#8217;s right! You can jazz up your lunch in the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cafeteria with a fruit, veggie and milk for free <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">if you bring your lunch from home. Bon appetit!! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SAFE: <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It&#8217;s SAFE to Tell. The SAFE Team exists<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to help students with problems in a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">confidential manner to help remove any and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">all barriers to education. You can refer <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">your friends or yourself. It&#8217;s now safer and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">easier to tell: just fill out the SAFE to Tell <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">form which you can find ONLINE in your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">guidance counselor&#8217;s resources folder.
