Counselors conduct Course Selection in December through January with current 8th through 11th grade students. During this time, students select courses that are of interest to them, that are aligned with and\/or will help them develop future career goals and that satisfy their high school graduation requirements.\u00a0 This requires input from teachers, counselors, and parents\/guardians as well as the informed and purposeful consideration of course options by the student.\u00a0 In May, schedules are finalized and available for review by students and parents\/guardians. At that time, students and parents\/guardians are encouraged to carefully review the schedule and contact their School Counselor with questions or corrections (see below for a list of things to consider when reviewing the schedule).\u00a0<\/span>The deadline for schedule correction requests will be announced in May when students receive their schedules.<\/span><\/p>\n

Student Schedules: Things to Consider<\/strong><\/p>\n

In May, students will receive their schedule for the next school year.\u00a0 The schedule must be reviewed by the student and parent\/guardian for appropriateness and accuracy.\u00a0 Below is a list of things to consider when reviewing the schedule:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Does the schedule include all required core courses for that year (English, Math, Science, etc.)?<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Are the levels of the core course accurate (i.e., AP vs Honors)?<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Is the schedule complete (there is a course every period)?<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Is the student scheduled for their priority electives?<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Is the schedule balanced (i.e., no more than two core courses per semester)?<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Are the courses aligned to the student\u2019s post-secondary goals?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Corrections and questions should be submitted to the student\u2019s counselor no later than the deadline announced in May. Requests made by the deadline will be considered and processed by August 15.<\/span><\/p>\n

    IMPORTANT: The creation of an appropriate and accurate schedule can only take place when the school can consider the courses selected by students final and binding. Courses selected by a student and placed in their schedule are expected to be completed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Any student who has not successfully completed any core course and has not completed remediation programs will not enter the next level of the course of study.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
