{"id":313,"date":"2018-10-26T19:09:03","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T19:09:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/basdwpweb.beth.k12.pa.us\/programofstudies\/?page_id=313"},"modified":"2023-03-31T18:26:57","modified_gmt":"2023-03-31T18:26:57","slug":"special-education-services-and-programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/basdwpweb.beth.k12.pa.us\/programofstudies\/special-education-services-and-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Education Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><\/div><p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES AND PROGRAMS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under Pennsylvania and federal laws, a student who meets the eligibility requirements for special education has the right to participate in the general education curriculum in the regular education classroom in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).\u00a0 The program of support and services is described in the student\u2019s Individualized Education Program (IEP).\u00a0 Providing a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for a student with a disability begins with the consideration of services in the LRE.\u00a0 The organization and delivery of special education services are planned in a flexible and responsive manner to accommodate the student\u2019s special needs of eligibility without removing the student, unnecessarily, from the general education curriculum in the regular education classroom.\u00a0 Supplementary aids and services received by the student are dependent on his\/her individual needs.\u00a0 The Bethlehem Area School District promotes inclusive opportunities for all students.<\/p>\n<p>The students shall participate in the general education curriculum in the regular education classroom to the maximum extent appropriate, which may be accommodated, adapted, or modified.\u00a0 The district does provide a full continuum of services and programs.\u00a0 Eligible students may be provided instruction through supplemental curricula.\u00a0 Service\/program options may be considered when the program of study needs to be intensified in order to meet the student\u2019s overall needs.<\/p>\n<p>Transition planning begins at age 14.\u00a0 The IEP team will decide what kinds of courses will prepare the student for life after high school through the transition planning process.\u00a0 The IEP team, including the student and parent, will plan transition activities to prepare the student for post-high school experiences.\u00a0 Discussions during transition planning include:\u00a0 college or post-high school planning;
