Fine and Practical Arts play an important role in the development of the whole student.\u00a0 Music, Art, Family Consumer Science, and Industrial Arts contribute to personal development, expression, creativity, and basic skills necessary for every student.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>ART OFFERINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING (AR9149)<\/strong> 0.5 credit<\/p>\n<p>Students will learn the fundamental concepts and practice of drawing, including observation, composition, perspective, value, and balance. The course will utilize still life subjects and introduce students to a variety of materials and techniques.<br \/>\nThe course will emphasize the value of drawing as both an artistic skill and as a lifelong creative expression and mindful practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PAINTING AND DRAWING 1 (AR9129)<\/strong>\u00a01.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>This is an introductory course. This course is devoted to teaching the different techniques of drawing and painting through the use of the elements of art: line, shape, value, form, space, color, and texture. Students will be introduced to the principles of design. Art history will be used to develop criticism and aesthetic judgment skills. Students will be responsible for course terminology, class projects, homework assignments, and a sketchbook. Evaluation is based on creativity, craftsmanship and fulfilling objectives of studio work. Artwork will be exhibited.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PAINTING AND DRAWING 2 (AR9139)<\/strong>\u00a01.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>Studio Art 2 is an in-depth study of the principles of design-rhythm, movement, balance, proportion, variety, unity, and emphasis. Students will explore both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media to create a variety of visual experiences. Art history, criticism and aesthetics will be emphasized. Students will be responsible for vocabulary, studio work, homework assignments and a sketchbook. Evaluation is based on creativity, craftsmanship, and fulfilling objectives of class projects. Artwork will be exhibited. <em>To be successful, it is recommended students complete Studio Art 1 before taking Studio Art 2. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>CERAMICS 1 (AR9059)<\/strong>\u00a01.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>This introductory program gives students the opportunity to learn basic hand building processes in working with clay.\u00a0 The following four methods will be emphasized:\u00a0 pinch pot, coil slab and potter\u2019s wheel. In addition to learning to form clay articles, students will learn to glaze the finished product.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CERAMICS 2 (AR9069)<\/strong>\u00a01.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>Ceramics 2 is for students working beyond their prior experience in shaping, glazing, and using the potter\u2019s wheel. <em>To be successful, it is recommended students complete Ceramics 1 before taking Ceramics 2. <\/em><strong>Note:<\/strong> This course can be taken multiple times for advanced study of the subject.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PHOTOGRAPHY 1 (AR9039)\u00a0<\/strong>1.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>In this course students will explore the history of photography, contemporary photographers, and photographic genres in relation to their own production of original imagery through still camera work. Students will also be given opportunities to learn basic photo editing techniques.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PHOTOGRAPHY 2 (AR9049)\u00a0<\/strong>1.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>In this course students will expand on the knowledge and skills acquired in Photography 1. This course can be taken multiple times for advanced study of the subject. To be successful, it is required students complete and pass Photography 1 before taking Photography 2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SCULPTURE 1 (AR9109)<\/strong> <em>\u00a0<\/em>1.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>Students will be introduced to different styles of sculpture. They will work with a variety of materials such as wire, plastic, cardboard, paper to make hand on sculpture project. Students will be exposed to contemporary artists that are alive and working today to be inspired by them to create their own works of art.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SCULPTURE 2 (AR9119)<\/strong> <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>1.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Students will continue their exploration of materials to create sculptural works of art. Emphasis will be placed on refining<br \/>\nskills and applying good design. This course can be taken multiple times for advanced study of the subject.&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AP 2-D ART AND DESIGN PORTFOLIO (AR5000)<\/strong>\u00a01.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>Develop your 2-D skills through materials and processes such as graphic design, photography, collage, printmaking, fashion illustration, collage, and others. You\u2019ll create artwork that reflects your own ideas and skills and what you\u2019ve learned. In an AP Art and Design course, you\u2019ll develop the skills that artists and designers use and create a portfolio of work you\u2019ll submit for an AP score.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PORTFOLIO PREPARATION (AR9099)<\/strong>\u00a01.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>Prerequisite: <em>This is a capstone course. A minimum of level 1 and 2 courses are required. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>This course is designed for students seeking to enter college-level art programs. Young people wishing to explore their talents and learn about careers in art and students seeking self-development and personal enrichment are encouraged to enroll in this course. Assistance with college entrance requirements and portfolio preparation is provided. Ultimately students will produce a portfolio of 15-20 examples of art in the student&#8217;s area of focus. Evaluation is based on presentation of portfolio. <strong>Note:<\/strong> Students are expected to secure their own portfolio case; school will not supply. This course can be taken multiple times for advanced study of the subject.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>PRACTICAL ARTS OFFERINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WOODCRAFT 1 (IA9029)<\/strong>\u00a01.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>This course develops a student\u2019s use of simple tools and equipment for the construction of woodcraft projects. There will be an emphasis on the ability to use simple tools, design layout and project completion. This is an introduction to woodworking focusing on the safe and proper use of woodworking tools, power machines, and materials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WOODCRAFT<\/strong> <strong>2 (IA9039)\u00a0<\/strong>1.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>Woodcraft 2 will include a review of skills taught in Woodcraft 1 with further instruction on design and more advanced machine operations. The emphasis will be on planning and construction of fine furniture and cabinetry. Woodcraft 2 will provide the opportunity for the student to further develop and refine his\/her skills. There will be ample time for the student to explore advanced methods and procedures utilized in the construction of fine furniture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STAGE CRAFT (IA9069)<\/strong> <em>Offered at Liberty High School<\/em>\u00a01.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>This class will include sections on set construction, lighting design and installation, sound systems including using microphones, monitor speakers and mixers. Stage craft will have many hands on activities setting up for the many programs and events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOME DESIGN AND MODEL BUILDING (IA9059) <\/strong><em>Offered at Liberty High School<\/em>\u00a0 0.5 credit<\/p>\n<p>Students will learn home construction techniques, house framing skills, and explore the architectural design process. Students will create simple models and prototypes using proportion and scale, implement topography, and investigate residential building materials. All work will be done using simple woodworking hand and craft tools.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GRAPHIC ARTS 1 (IA9009)<\/strong> <em>Offered at Liberty High School<\/em>\u00a00.5 credit<\/p>\n<p>Graphic Arts is a course for the beginning student who would like to explore the fundamentals in basic stenciling, lettering and design, screen printing, air brush illustrations and sign making.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GRAPHICS ARTS 2 (IA9019)<\/strong> <em>Offered at Liberty High School<\/em>\u00a01.0 credit<\/p>\n<p>This is an advanced course where a student will work independently and continue to explore and refine fundamentals in the areas of multiple color screen printing, block printing, technical airbrush illustrations, scroll saw art, engraving, wood carving, sign making, and laser cutting.
