Staying healthy and fit is important for all students and staff!
Get involved in fitness programs at Spring Garden! Sharpen the Saw!
The Mileage Club
This is an incentive based walk/run program that occurs during Fifth Grade recess. Students walk/run around a quarter mile course. When students finish a lap, they receive a hole punch on their personal lap card. Students receive tokens when they complete five, ten and fifteen miles. Most students attach the plastic toe to their shoe lace. Students who complete the most mileage receive the coveted “Big Foot Award”
Fun with Fitness
This program encourages Fourth and Fifth Graders to get up and move! Students are invited to take part in games and fitness activities first thing in the morning! The gym doors open at 8:20 for the exercise enthusiasts. After a few warm-up activities, students vote for the sport of the day. Will they choose floor hockey, soccer, matball, basketball or something else? The sport varies from week to week. I will send out sign-up instructions for this activity in late September. Please encourage your child to attend this once-a-week offering.
Family Skate Night
This is a great night to mingle and learn a new skill with other Spring Garden Families at the Bethlehem Ice Rink on Illick’s Mill Road. I will be on hand to teach safety and beginner ice skating skills. This event will take place sometime in January.
Girls on the Run
Some girls in 4th and 5th grade participated in the Girls on the Run program twice weekly in the fall. Activities emphasized friendship, empowerment and fitness. The culmination was a 5K run at DeSales College. Miss Dowches and Miss Gregoris were mentors for this special program.
