Bethlehem, Pa. (September 14, 2018) – Bethlehem Area School District will be able to realize the work of the Farm To School Program at Broughal Middle School thanks to a $2,500 grant from the PPL Foundation.

Broughal Middle School’s Farm to School Program encompasses a variety of activities and learning experiences, giving students a broad knowledge of nutrition, gardening, agriculture, and cooking. The Farm to School Program provides hands-on learning while utilizing the grade level curriculum based lessons in science, math, language arts, and social studies for all Broughal Middle School students. When fully implemented, this program will provide the school community access to locally-grown, affordable, fresh food as well as a nutritional education program.

Julie Bailey, Executive Director of The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District states, “We are grateful to the PPL Foundation for their ongoing support of the Bethlehem Area School District students. This generous donation will go a long way to help provide Broughal Middle School students with unique hands-on learning experiences.”

The PPL Foundation awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process.

“The challenges our local communities face are complex, and we’re committed to helping resolve them through our PPL Foundation,” said Carol Obando-Derstine, regional affairs director for PPL Electric Utilities. “We’re proud to be able to support nonprofit organizations working to address educational challenges in creative and engaging ways.”
