Some programs run every week all year long and others are weekly for just a few months. Students will receive registration forms for any programs they are eligible for. A small group of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4th and 5th grade students<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are bussed to the Banana Factory Arts Center after school where they engage in art-making activities. All classes are led by professional teaching artists in classrooms and studio spaces at the Banana Factory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Bike Club<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During this FREE program sponsored by the Coalition for Alternate Transportation (CAT), students in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4th and 5th grade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> learn how to maintain and fix a bike, practice a variety of riding techniques, discuss riding in traffic, learn hand signals, and go for bike rides. Students are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets; however, if they do not have any, loaners will be provided.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Cheerleading<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In preparation for the annual Turkey Bowl and March Madness, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5th grade students<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> learn cheers they will perform for their classmates at the teacher vs. student football and basketball games.\u00a0<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Cooking Matters<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hosted by Second Harvest Food Bank, these FREE cooking classes teach <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">3rd grade students<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> how to cook delicious meals, put together healthy snacks and drinks, and learn to make the best food choices no matter where they are. At the end of the course, students receive a guide of healthy hints, recipes, shopping tips and assorted small kitchen items.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Garden Gnomes<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This program is offered to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5th graders and their families<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> who want to help with keeping the outside of William Penn Elementary School looking nice. The program is run by William Penn teachers and meets from 3:40 pm &#8211; 4:45 pm one Monday a month throughout the year.\u00a0 Members work together to plant (when possible), weed, pick up any litter, recycle and to generate ideas about landscape maintenance. All ideas are welcome!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Girl Scouts<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> prepare for a lifetime of leadership, success, and adventure in a safe, no-limits place designed for and by girls. Through a collection of engaging, challenging and fun activities, the girls have an opportunity to earn badges, build friendships, sell cookies and more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Good News Club<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is a FREE, exciting, fun-filled weekly club in which the bible is taught with songs, stories and games to students in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1st through 5th grade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Good News Club teachers are specially trained Christians who talk to students about God\u2019s love, how every person has value and how God can help them do the right thing, find victory in hard times and show love to others. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">William Penn does not endorse any religion.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Homework Club<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During Homework Club, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Moravian College tutors help 3rd through 5th grade students complete their homework in ways that extend their understanding and interest. Students have the opportunity to read or play educational games once they have completed their homework.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Karate<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This FREE Japanese martial arts program, offered to students in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2nd and 3rd grade, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">will improve their strength, coordination, focus, confidence and leadership skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Leadership Team<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Student Leadership Team is led by a core group of 3rd through 5th grade students. These students have been elected by their classroom peers or chosen by their teachers. The team serves in leadership roles throughout the school year such as speaking roles during assemblies, being tour guides to new families, welcoming families at family engagement events, and visiting community partners for field trip and volunteer opportunities. These students lead by example and help motivate other William Penn students to do their best.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Little Aevidum\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The word Aevidum means \u201cI\u2019ve got your back.\u201d This FREE program is for students in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2nd and 3rd grade <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">who are looking to build friendships, spread positivity and have fun! During meetings, students discuss ways to deal with stress, create fun projects, and discuss friendship skills.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Penn Pacers<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Penn Pacers is a William Penn run club offered to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4th and 5th grade students <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and is run by teachers! The club meets every Tuesday from 3:40 pm &#8211; 4:45 pm. The teachers train the students using the popular Couch to 5K app (C25K) with a goal of running a full 5K race (3.1 miles). In addition to running, the group focuses on character development, living a healthy lifestyle, building perseverance, being persistent, keeping positivity and more. The club runs several 5K races throughout the fall and spring.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<p><b>Push the Rock<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is a FREE Christian based athletic program offered to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">boys in kindergarten through 2nd grade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Students are taught different sports while incorporating sportsmanship and teamwork into the activities.<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> William Penn does not endorse any religion.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<p><b>Safety Patrol<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A select group of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5th graders<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> help William Penn students cross streets before and after school.\u00a0 The program helps students learn skills necessary for the transition to middle school like responsibility, time management and communication skills.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<p><b>Swim Lessons<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">FREE swim lessons are offered to students in 3rd &#8211; 5th grade in the spring at Liberty High School. Classes are usually held on a Saturday morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>TechGYRLS<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">William Penn <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4th and 5th grade girls<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> learn about robotics and coding through the use of programs called Lighbot and Scratch. They learn to think like engineers and get the opportunity to show off their projects at the TechEXPO to their families. It is about girls helping girls become their best selves through this FREE, fun STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program. Outside speakers and field trips are also offered to TechGYRLS during the year.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<p><b>Yoga<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This FREE program, offered to students in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">3rd through 5th grade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, teaches relaxation and breathing techniques as well as mindfulness strategies.
