World Language

Exploration Courses

In 6th grade, students will be introduced to the basics of multiple world languages and cultures through the three courses listed below. They will learn basic vocabulary and ways to express themselves in each language while building an appreciation of other cultures. Students will pursue advanced language and culture studies in one of the languages for 7th and 8th grade.

  • Exploring Spanish (SP6009)

French- Part 1 (FR7009)

The French 1- Part 1 course is appropriate for students with no previous and/or little instruction in French. The goal of the course is the development of basic communicative skills in French. The course emphasizes speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills and provides a basic introduction to French-speaking cultures.

French- Part 2 (FR8009)

The French 1- Part 2 builds on the content learned in the first part of the course. The goal of the course is the development of basic communicative skills in French. The course emphasizes speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills and provides a basic introduction to French-speaking cultures.

German- Part 1 (GE7009) East Hills, Nitschmann, Northeast

The German 1- Part 1 course is appropriate for students with no previous and/or little instruction in German. The goal of the course is the development of basic communicative skills in German. Spanish- Part 1 (SP7009)

The Spanish 1- Part 1 course is appropriate for students with no previous and/or little instruction in French. The goal of the course is the development of basic communicative skills in Spanish. The course emphasizes speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills and provides a basic introduction to Spanish-speaking cultures.

Spanish- Part 2 (SP8009)

The Spanish 1- Part 2 builds on the content learned in the first part of the course. The goal of the course is the development of basic communicative skills in Spanish. The course emphasizes speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills and provides a basic introduction to Spanish-speaking cultures.

World Culture (WL9009) East Hills, Northeast

This course is for students unable to fit Exploratory Languages into their schedule in grade 6 or those who are new to the district and did not have Part 1 of a World Language class. This is a FULL-YEAR course; one semester will focus on the three languages offered in our building [German, French, Spanish], and one semester of culture [holidays, special events, crafts, music, etc.]
