VOLUNTEER CLEARANCES
William Penn appreciates the willingness of volunteers to work with our students. Pennsylvania law requires all school volunteers who, through the course of their volunteer position, are responsible for the welfare of a child or have direct contact with children, are required to obtain and renew the following background checks.
All volunteers must have their clearances before starting any volunteer activity and provide copies to the William Penn Elementary School main office or the Community School office. Copies of these can be dropped off at school or emailed to ghockemeier@basdschools.org.
Child Abuse Clearance: (Free for volunteers)
https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home
When you are finished completing the form you will get an email that says the clearance is processing. This can take up to 72 hours. That is NOT the clearance verification. You will receive an email from noreply.gov with a link that takes you to the sign in page. You will enter the username and password that you created when applying to get back in the system. At that point, you will see an option to view/print a clearance result. THAT is the clearance you need to provide.
For the PA Child Abuse Clearance, you will be asked for a Keystone ID#. The Keystone ID# is a number you must create. It must be 6 – 10 characters in length and must include (1) capital and (1) number.
State Background Check: (Free for volunteers)
https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
This one is immediately processed and you will be able to print.
FBI Fingerprints: This is needed if you have lived outside of PA within the last 10 years. Cost is $22.60 if using the BASD education code.
1382 Hanover Avenue in Allentown is the closest fingerprint center to us. Register online and make an appointment at https://www.identogo.com/
The BASD code is 1KG6XN.
Be sure to get a copy of the receipt as we will need this to access the “official”results of the FBI Clearance. You will receive an “unofficial” copy of the results in the mail for your records.
