On the morning of September 11, 2001, the US experienced terrorist attacks that changed our country forever. However, for those old enough to recall that day, memories have faded a bit and for our student body, none are old enough to recall the events at all. Therefore, it is important to take time each year to memorialize that 9/11. On the morning of Monday, September 11, 2017, Liberty High School did just that.
The honor guard approaches.
At 8:46, the same time when the first plane hit the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001, Liberty paused for a moment of silence. Then at 9:30, Liberty came together to hold a flag raising ceremony to memorialize the tragedies that took place 16 years ago. Participating in the ceremony were the Liberty First Company, Military Recruiters and Private Joshua Plum, a 2016 Liberty graduate who is currently serving in the US Marine Corps. Private Plum was on hand to assist with raising the flag and also represent all Liberty Graduates who are either currently serving or have served their country in the US Military.
Corporal Dan Lasko, US Marine Corps 2001-2005 and Principal Harrison Bailey spoke to more than 300 students and faculty who gathered outside Liberty to watch the ceremony. Corporal Lasko spoke about the injuries he received while serving in Afghanistan with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Force and his efforts since the to help and and honor fellow wounded warriors. Mr. Bailey spoke about the importance of paying tribute to those that lost their lives that day by helping others.
