Schoology Directions for Parents

Dropping Off Forgotten Items (Falcone):  We strive to encourage each student to be responsible and organized in preparation for their future high school years.  Recently there has been an increased volume of items that students have forgotten at home and parents have brought into the school for them. This has caused a decrease in class instruction time caused by frequent interruptions.  We understand some items are necessary to conduct a normal school day such as: BASD Chromebooks, eyeglasses and lunch. Items such as clothing, sports equipment and phones do not warrant interruption to the entire class. To prevent interruptions to all our students, we ask that should you decide to drop off an item, you label that item with your child’s name and grade and place the item in the designated area located within the Student Service Office.  Send your child an email at their BASD email account to remind them, please do not text or call your child during the school day, which can lead to their cell phone confiscation.

We greatly appreciate the fantastic turn-out; we know all too well how important your involvement is to our students’ success. We would also like to thank everyone who donated to the Pajamas for Trauma drive. It is nice to see our Team Lehigh family living up to our Motto “Be a Decent Human Being” Go Mountain Hawks!! If your child still can not get on to the sites they need to in order to complete their work they can come before school from 7:30 to 8:00 to work in the computer lab or stay after school in one of our rooms to use the computer. Thank you for your continued support in this matter. The two links that you can use to access the Clever Hub are : BASD G Suite for Education (https://sites.google.com/a/basdschools.org/google/) then clicking on Clever or by going to the BASD district home page and clicking on parents/students (https://www.beth.k12.pa.us/ParentsStudents/)

Team Penn State (7th) (Twitter @NMSPennState/Facebook @NMSTeamPennState/ Instagram pennstatenms Team Leader Mrs. Miller) Your child should be checking schoology/planner every evening in order to make sure all assignments are complete. Thank you to all parents/guardians that attended open house on Monday! Science: Students will be finishing using the equipment for a performance assessment. They will be learning how to design a controlled experiment this week and practice this skill with a red cabbage lab.  English: This week, students completed a close read of The Wise Old Woman. They wrote their first literary analysis answer which examined relationships and theme within the story. They used textual evidence to support their written answers. Next week we will read an excerpt from Stargirl and read Seventh Grade in order to write a comparative response. Math:  All classes are working working with integers and rational numbers in Unit 1.  Periods 2,3 and 9 have a quiz Monday on Sections 1-1 – 1-5. Periods 6 and 8 have a short quiz on all 4 integer operations on Monday and their first Unit Test on Thursday.  Social Studies: We will start our 5 Themes unit on Monday.

Team East Stroudsburg (8th) (Twitter @NMSTeamESU Team Leader Mr. Amen Instagram @nmsteamesu8)   English classes will continue Unit 1 and will be comparing and contrasting the poem, “Sympathy” with the short story, Ten Days in a Mad House.  We will also be reading The Conjure Man and the Monkey’s Paw.  The Lottery and The Monkey’s Paw will be read.  History classes will be looking at the systematic racism that begin in 1609 at Jamestown Virginia.

In History, we will continue looking at Jamestown and early colonization.  We will work on text-dependent analysis to see how Historians view Pocahontas’s contributions. We will also watch a Nat Geo special entitled Nightmare at Jamestown, which looks at the science behind the first successful colony.   In ELA classes this week (Wallach and Hinkel), students will be working on comparing and contrasting “Sympathy” with Ten Days in a Mad House and determining author’s purpose in the text. With all class textbooks online this year, it is ESSENTIAL that your child has a pair or two of earbuds with them daily!  Students will be able to use the text to speech feature, be able to watch videos as part of the curriculum, and create their own WeVideo projects. Earbuds are sold at the school store if needed. Responsibility points in each class will be deducted IF your child is unprepared with earbuds, uncharged laptop, pencils, etc.   If your child is absent, it is his/her responsibility to EMAIL their teacher and CHECK Schoology to see what was missed, so your child can  stay on pace.
