PAYS Survey (Mayes) All 6th & 8th grade students in the BASD & statewide will be participating in the PAYS Survey next week in Health/PE classes. You can read more information about the survey here. Information was sent home with your child. Please contact Dr. Mayes with any questions.

6th Grade Social Media Assembly (Horlick) Over the past few weeks, we have helped many 6th grade students over their inappropriate use of social media accounts. Students in 6th grade are often too immature to handle unsupervised social media. The consequences can be severe to use social media to harass, mock, or insult other students. We are taking a proactive step to talk to all 6th grade students about the challenges and consequences of social media on Wednesday, November 20th. Now is a great time to check your child’s phone for these accounts and look at what they have posted. In addition, it is a great time to review what social media you want your child to use when they get a smartphone. We strongly encourage parents to wait for children to use social media until they are mature enough to handle the responsibility. Remember, make sure you have your child’s social media passwords so you can keep an eye on their accounts!

Lehigh Education Day (Mayes) Nitschmann Middle School has been invited to participate as the honored school for the 2019 Lehigh University Education Day basketball game. The entire school will be attending on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. Students will be bussed to and from the game. Our band, chorus, color guard, cheerleaders, and mascot Genoa the Lion will be participating in the event and cheering the Lehigh Mountain Hawks to victory! Students should bring their lunch with them for the event. Students will also be permitted to request a bagged lunch from the cafeteria for those who are eligible.

8th Grade Chromebook Reminder (Mayes) Dear 8th Grade Students, Parents, & Guardians, Just a reminder that all 8th-grade students should be taking their Chromebooks home nightly to charge them and complete their homework. Your Chromebook should never be left in your locker overnight. Your teachers and I have noticed an increase in students requesting to charge laptops during the day. Students who do not come prepared for class with a charged laptop may have consequences assigned by the teacher. If you are having an issue with your Chromebook not holding a charge, please see Mrs. Ellis immediately for repair. We want you to have everything you need each day! Thank you.

8th Grade Chromebook WiFi Needs (Mayes) If you are an 8th grade student and do not have reliable wi-fi at home, please see Mrs. Ellis.

Upcoming Dances (Mayes) The rescheduled Alice in Wonderland Dance will be held on Friday, November 22.

Student Services Updates (Mr. Horlick)

Contact Members of the Student Services Team by email: Mr. Horlick, Assistant Principal; Mrs. Scott, SSC Guidance Secretary; Mrs. Falcone, SSC Attendance Secretary

Schoology Directions for Parents

Picking Up Your Child For An Appointment (Falcone): Please make sure to send a parent signed excuse with your child the morning of your child’s appointment.  Your child will bring the excuse to Student Services during Homeroom Period in order to receive a pass to leave class.  This method inturn minimizes the interruption of educational instruction to the entire classroom.

Dropping Off Forgotten Items (Falcone):  We strive to encourage each student to be responsible and organized in preparation for their future high school years.  Recently there has been an increased volume of items that students have forgotten at home and parents have brought into the school for them. This has caused a decrease in class instruction time caused by frequent interruptions.  We understand some items are necessary to conduct a normal school day such as: BASD Chromebooks, eyeglasses and lunch. Items such as clothing, sports equipment and phones do not warrant interruption to the entire class. To prevent interruptions to all our students, we ask that should you decide to drop off an item, you label that item with your child’s name and grade and place the item in the designated area located within the Student Service Office.  Send your child an email at their BASD email account to remind them, please do not text or call your child during the school day, which can lead to their cell phone confiscation.
