Nitschmann Middle School Weekly Update, Home of the Nitschmann Nation!

Sunday, December 6, 2020, to Sunday, December 13, 2020

  • Sad News: It is with sadness that we share that our former Nitschmann Middle School principal, A. Thomas Kartsotis, passed away this weekend. Mr. Kartsotis led the transition of Nitschmann Junior High School to Nitschmann Middle School in 1982 and served as our principal for many years. Many of our alumni will remember him for his tenacious leadership, commitment to technology, and pride in our school and community. He embodied the strength of a lion through his career. Obituary information will be posted to our school social media accounts this week.

  • Student Covid Information: A reminder to report your child exposure or Covid testing to Mrs. Valvik, our school nurse, at jvalvik@basdschools.org

  • New Encore Classes Begin Monday 12/7: All students 6-8 begin their new Rotation 3 (R3) Encore classes on Monday. In addition, all 6th grade students begin their new World Language Rotation (T2) on Monday. Students should report to their new classes this week.

  • Reminder for Students to Check Schoology Folders: A reminder for all students to check the folders inside of each class, not just the upcoming assignments, in each course. The master list of all assignments is in each course. If your child is unsure, they should email or message their teacher ASAP!

  • 2nd Quarter Mid-Quarter IPR: Stay on your child to submit their assignments and complete their work. The mid-quarter cut-off for grades is Wednesday, December 16. A paper copy will be sent home with your child for a signature & mailed to your home. Don’t forget that you can set Schoology to send you a summary of your child’s daily or weekly work to review with them. Click here for directions!

  • Good news! We wish Dr. Sierra good health as she recovers from emergency surgery over the Thanksgiving holiday break. We expect to see her in the new year! Dr. Sierra will be teaching from home with a substitute in the classroom. Please contact her at tsierra@basdschools.org for help or information.

  • Remote Learning: In the event of the need for school-wide short-term remote learning for students due to a school closure, Dr. Mayes will release emails & videos to help with quick turnaround for the next day. Please make sure your emails & phone numbers are always updated with Student Services by emailing Mrs. Scott at sscott@basdschools.org. We rely upon this system for our messaging to parents & guardians.
