Dear Parents & Guardians of Nitschmann Middle School Students,

This May, your child will be participating in the 2021 Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) and/or Algebra 1 Keystone Exam by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to provide a snapshot of their current academic performance in core academic subjects. All students will be taking the required standardized Mathematics and English Language Arts assessments. Eighth grade students will also be taking the required Science assessment. Eighth grade students in the Algebra 1 course this year will take the Algebra 1 Keystone Exam.

The dates for the 2021 Exams for Nitschmann Middle School will be:

Algebra Keystone Exams (8th Grade Algebra 1 Sections Only) May 19 or 20, 2021

English Language Arts (6th, 7th, 8th): May 25 & 27, 2021 or May 26 & 28, 2021

Mathematics (6th, 7th, 8th): June 1 or 2, 2021

Science (8th): June 3 or 4, 2021

During the testing window, your child will report to their normal homeroom at 8:05am for administration of the assessment. Students will follow the PDE Electronic Device policy and school policies on student behavior. Violations of these policies will be addressed by administration. In addition, students must be present and on time for the assessment on each day listed above, unless they are sick with a doctor’s excuse. Doctor appointments or other appointments for anything other than a serious illness will not be accepted. Please see the attached information.

Please contact me directly with any questions regarding this statewide policy or any of the information in the attached documents from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Sincerely,

Dr. Peter Mayes
