NITSCHMANN MIDDLE SCHOOL

2021-2022 CELL PHONE/SMARTWATCH POLICY

These cell phone standards are developed with your child in mind so as not to cause substantial disruption in the educational process. The following list serves as guidelines for cell phone use while at Nitschmann Middle School.

  • Students are to keep their cell phone OUT OF SIGHT stored in their pocket or bookbag throughout the school day.

  • Cell phones may be used in class at the teacher’s direction.

  • Students may wear a smartwatch, as long as they are not using the texting function during the school day.

  • Cell phones and smartwatches may be collected and stored during standardized testing, such as the PSSA or Keystone Exams, as required by state policy.

  • Students who violate this policy will be warned to put their cell phone away in their pocket or bookbag.

  • Violations of this cell phone policy may include:
    • Using their cell phone in the bathroom.
    • Taking their cell phone out during class without the teacher’s permission.
    • Texting a parent to pick up their child without permission.
    • Using their cell phone in the hallway or cafeteria.
    • Any other incident as identified by the administration.

  • Students who continue to violate this policy repeatedly will have their cell phone sent to Student Services.
    • On the first offence, a student’s cell phone will be returned to them at the conclusion of the school day. A parent/guardian will be contacted by Student Services.
    • On further offences, a student will be required to turn in their cell phone for the school day. The cell phone will be returned to them at the conclusion of the school day. A parent/guardian will be contacted by Student Services.

Students who are not following the cell phone policy will begin the process by speaking with their guidance counselor and/or assistant principal to resolve the issue.
