- Start of School Important Dates (PLEASE check the NMS Calendar on the BASD Website – we ALWAYS post to this site first rather than send home a paper calendar!)
- Evening Walk-Through on Thursday 8/26 from 6:30pm-8:00pm. We invite all families to join us in the auditorium for a quick welcome by Dr. Mayes & Mrs. Woodson, then time to explore the school building prior to the first day of school. No sign ups needed for this event. Masks are required inside of Nitschmann Middle School for everyone.
- First Day of School 8/30 (6th Graders report at 8:05am, 7th & 8th Graders report at 11:05am). Review our Welcome Back Letter when posted with your child’s schedule for more information. 6th Grade Orientation will be held during the morning of the first day of school. Masks are required inside of Nitschmann Middle School for everyone.

- The Liberty High School girls volleyball team is hosting a skills clinic Saturday, August 14, the weekend before tryouts. Mrs. Van Woert and Mrs. Hinkel will not be there and are not a part of the clinic, but it’s a great opportunity for some extra practice before tryouts. Please use the link to a google form for more information and contact information for Coach Swigart, the head coach at Liberty, if you are interested in attending. Girls Field Hockey (Mr. Burzynski bburzynski@basdschools.org)
- Practice begins on Monday, August 16th from 10:00am to 12:00pm. A BASD Physical is REQUIRED! Please email Mr. Burzynski with any questions.
- I am excited for the start of the field hockey season this coming Monday August 16, 2021. I wanted to let you know some details before the first day. Practices start at 10 AM on the turf at Nitschmann. Please be there by 9:50 AM fully equipt for practice. If you have not done so already, you MUST have a current PIAA sports physical dated after 6/1 to start practice. (If you can’t get an appointment from your primary doctor I suggest calling a walk-in center to get the PIAA physical and bring with you 8/16.)
- Things to bring:
- Weather appropriate clothing
- Field hockey stick (preferably the height of the top of your hip bone)
- Mouth guard
- Goggles
- Cleats
- Shin guards
- Water bottle
- Any other braces, hair ties, wraps, etc. you may need.
- If you are just getting started and need equipment Dick’s Sporting Goods sells a starter kit that is popular. Dick’s Discount. I suggest getting outside a few times this week for a run and some basics to get heat acclimated.
