Academic Team Updates

Team Lafayette (6th) (Twitter @NMSLafayette) Peaceable Kingdom will be coming to talk to Team Lafayette this week about what they do at their shelter and how we can help as kitten season approaches.  Be on the lookout for a list of donations we will be gathering to help. Reminder – Our first deadline for the End of the Year field trip has come and gone.  If you have not completed the permission slip and made at least a partial payment, the final payment must be in by April 5th so that we can order our tickets and secure bussing in time.  Please have your child turn this in to their homeroom teacher as soon as possible if they haven’t already done so.

Team Lehigh (6th) (Twitter @NMSTeamLehigh)  Laptops were rolled out on a one to one basis this past week. This means that the students are responsible for their own laptops and will be carrying between each of their core classes. Unfortunately, we have had several computers left behind in classes already.  Please talk to your child about laptop safety and responsibility. Our Medieval Times field trip is May 22nd. The cost of the trip is $40 a person. Permission slips have been sent home several weeks ago but we have gotten very few back as of yet. Please ask your child about it and have them see their homeroom teacher if they need another copy. The 6th grade is running a bowling night at Towne and Country Lanes Friday March 29th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  If interested the cost is $12 for 2 hours of bowling and shoe rental. Tickets can be purchased from their homeroom teacher. As always, please keep an eye on the Home Access Center and their planners in order to monitor your child’s grades. Remember an hour a night of homework is all it should take. Try to help your child stick to this important habit.

Team Moravian (6th) – (Twitter @NMSTeam Moravian and Facebook@NMSTeamMoravian) The Moravian Science Day has been rescheduled for March 14th.  Please make sure to pack a lunch or bring $5 for lunch at the college. This is a walking trip so please dress appropriately. In social studies, all students are working on projects focusing on ancient Egypt.  They are researching topics that interest them. The goal is to complete 150 points. Everyone should be working on their fourth assignments at this time. Budget your time and work on a part each day. Please stay on top of Home Access Center and check grades regularly. OREO scores are still used daily, so please check those planners and aim for our next team reward!

Team Kutztown (7th) (Twitter @TeamKutztown) Team – Team Kutztown Free Family Pasta Dinner attendance forms are due to homeroom teachers on Monday, 3/18.  Forms were originally handed out last Monday. Students can expect to take a comprehension test on the play on Friday. ELA (Mr. Falteich) – Students must complete their speech topic selection sheets by Monday, 3/18. Once they have a topic approved by the teacher next week, they will research their position statements and write a persuasive speech. There will also be a quiz on the 9 parts of an effective speech; it will be given on Tuesday, 3/19.  Science (Mr. Pearson) – This coming week will begin with students comparing and contrasting bacterial cells to the plant and animal cells that they already learned about.  We will also be discussing how the cell fits into the levels of organization in multicellular organisms. Then, students will use a microscope to look at plant and animal cells and compare and contrast them.  Monday of the following week will be used to review the last two sections, which covered the discovery of cells and the location, structure, and function of cell organelles.
