Week of October 29, 2017: Good afternoon Northeast Family and Friends. Here is our Northeast “Shout Out” for this week that starts November. This week in school we have a number of student activities planned for some of our children. Our sixth grade seminar students are participating in an archeological dig on Wednesday at the Freemansburg Canal Park. On Thursday we have a special day for our entire 8th grade class when we are privileged to have the Shakespeare Willpower Tour 2017 perform Romeo and Juliet. This is an all day workshop ending with a full production of the play. A great experience our 8th graders are blessed to be given. Also on Thursday, 1/2 of our Investigators Team will be visiting our partners at DeSales for the day to discover college science first hand. The morning of Friday, November 3, Team CLICK will head to Lehigh University to see novelist, poet and the Carnegie Foundation’s 2015 Professor of the Year award winner, Javier Avila. The students prepared for Mr. Avila’s presentation by reading his biography and his book of poetry titled, The Trouble With My Name, Poems from the One-Man Show.
Another great opportunity for some of our children to experience the world of higher education which hopefully motivates all of them. We then end our school week hosting the Pennsylvania Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday. This concert is for all of the 4th graders throughout the district; however as the host school, our Northeast Orchestra students will be given an opportunity to enjoy the performance as well. The Philharmonic will also be performing a concert for the public at our school on Sunday, November 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
This week we officially end the first quarter on Wednesday and begin the second quarter on Thursday with respect to our grading. Noting this, please be prepared to receive communication from your child’s team of teachers regarding the scheduling of our first quarter Student Led Conferences. The dates for these conferences are Monday, November 20th from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Tuesday, November 21st from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. On both days students are dismissed at 11:30 a.m. As we prepare for our Student Led Conferences please continue to check on your child’s progress through our Student Access Center. Again if you need assistance please call the main office at 610-868-8581 and ask for Mrs. Rincon. Don’t wait till now when the quarter is almost complete or complete to check your child’s progress.
We also want to give you advance notice for an event our parent association is hosting on Monday, November 6th. They will be sponsoring a glow jump at Sky Zone Westgate Mall from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The cost for this event will be $16, which includes jumping for 2 hours and unlimited beverages. You must wear a white shirt or purchase a glow shirt from Sky Zone for $5. You must complete a waiver online or at SkyZone or your children cannot jump. Tickets will be on sale at lunch from October 31st through November 4th. This is a school event so only Northeast students will be able to attend. NEPTO only has 200 tickets so first come, first serve. Thank you and have a great remainder to your weekend.
