Good afternoon Northeast Family and Friends. Here is our Northeast “Shout Out” for the week of February 9th. Though our students have a short week in school because of teacher in-service on Friday, we have a lot of activities stuffed into those four days prior. To begin, on Tuesday our 8th grade Team Grit visits our Vocational Technical school as they decide the direction they are looking to take in high school. Tuesday is also our monthly recognition of students in the classroom when we hold our Hornet Lunches. Additionally, on Tuesday athletes wishing to play a spring sport and who are in need of a physical are encouraged to attend the free physicals being offered at Liberty High School. The physicals begin at 5 p.m. in the gymnasium. These free physicals will also be offered on Wednesday at Freedom High School.
On Wednesday we start the City Championship Basketball Tournament Games. We will open up the playoffs with a Pep Rally in the afternoon before the games. The Boys’ first open round tournament game is being played here at Northeast and the Girls play at Nitschmann. Our Boys’ basketball team will be playing against our crosstown rival Nitschmann, and our Girls’ first round playoff game is against Broughal. Teams that win Wednesday night play in the city championship games which will be played at Freedom High School on Thursday.
Finally, on our last school day of the week we host our annual Stomp Show which showcases the talents of students from 10 different schools in dance and step. The Stomp Show is Thursday and tickets must be purchased in advance. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
If you are looking for a fun activity, our wonderful parent organization has organized a NEPTO Night Out at The Rustic Wood Project on E. Elizabeth Avenue on Sunday, February 16th from 11:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. Flyers were sent home with your children about this opportunity.
Again, we remind everyone that this week is a short week for our students, because on Friday schools are closed for Teacher In-service. Have a great remainder to your weekend.
