Did you know that when children read over the summer they are more likely to “leap ahead” when they return to school? Numerous studies have shown that the best way for students to become better readers is to READ! Just 20-30 minutes a day can make a world of difference!
Northeast Middle School has a unique learning environment due to its culturally diverse population. Students who attend Northeast come from all parts of the world. This year, our summer reading program will focus on reading books from around the world! The benefits of reading multicultural literature are many. Multicultural books allow students to travel to different parts of the world to learn about the people, places, and customs of various cultures. This understanding of others helps build the school culture by creating a community where all are valued and respected. By reading multicultural literature, students will gain a deeper understanding of who they are and an appreciation of the diversity that surrounds them.
