What is the Farm to School Program?
The Farm to School Program at Broughal Middle School introduces nutritional education by encompassing a variety of activities and learning experiences, giving students a broad knowledge of nutrition, gardening, agriculture, cooking, and sustainable lifestyles for the students and community of the school. With over 89% of the student population offered free lunches, the students of Broughal Middle School have a great need for an enhanced nutritional education program.
The Farm to School Program and the Edge Restaurant, A Community Partnership
A passion for building community partnerships and fostering academic innovation, Chef Timothy and Karen Widrick visited the students of Broughal Middle School to learn about their Farm to School program. The agricultural fun continued with a field trip to the EDGE Restaurant, for a tour and cooking demonstration highlighting the fresh ingredients students have available on the roof through this amazing program.
